1) A survey on birds showed that one out of five fire finch was trapped, using mist net, in a given season. If $10$ birds are selected at random, find the probability that $3$ of the birds were trapped in the previous season.

The binomial probability formula is given by:

$$P (x) = \frac{n!}{(n – x)! x!}p^nq^{n-x}$$

From our questions:

$n = 10$, $x = 3$, $p = \frac{1}{5}$ and $q = \frac{4}{5}$

Substituting these values in the formula above, we have

$$P(3) = \frac{10!}{(10 – 3)! 3!}\bigg (\frac{1}{5} \bigg )^3\bigg (\frac{4}{5}\bigg )^7 = 0.201$$

$$P(3)=0.20$$
