$f(x)=2x^2-12x+23=2(x^2-6x+11.5)$

$2[(x-3)^3-9+11.5]$

$2[(x-3)^2+2.5]$

$2(x-3)^2+5$

In this question, $a=2$, $p=3$ and $q=5$. One advantage of this form is that, since $(x-3)^2\geq 0$, we can read off that $f(x)\geq 5$ and that the least value of the function occurs when $x=3$

Your Answer

Surround your text in *italics* or **bold**, to write a math equation use, for example, $x^2+2x+1=0$ or $$\beta^2-1=0$$

Use LaTeX to type formulas and markdown to format text. See example.
