$x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{(b^2-4ac)}}{2a}$

In this question, $a=2$, $b=-6$ and $c=-3$, hence $b^2-4ac=36-4\times2\times(-3)$, that is,

$b^2-4ac=60$.

Substituting these figure into the formula gives

$x=\frac{+6\pm\sqrt{60}}{4}$

$=\frac{6\pm2\sqrt{15}}{4}$

$\therefore x=\frac{3\pm\sqrt{15}}{2}$

Your Answer

Surround your text in *italics* or **bold**, to write a math equation use, for example, $x^2+2x+1=0$ or $$\beta^2-1=0$$

Use LaTeX to type formulas and markdown to format text. See example.
