ENG 202 Week 1 Response Paper 1
Response Paper # 1: Read over Billy Collins' "Introduction to Poetry" and answer the 3 Considerations for Critical Thinking and Writing found at the end of the poem & then choose either Springsteen's "Devils & Dust" or Sharp's "It's the Law: A Rap Poem" and write a response answering (or asking) the questions: how did it make you feel, what did you like, not like, understand, not understand, how does the language create the tone of the poem, who is the speaker of the poem, and what is the poem about. This 2-part response paper should be between 2-3 pages, double-spaced, following MLA format. Follow the MLA guidelines for citing lines of poetry within your analysis, as well as for the Works Cited page. Follow the 5 paragraph old-school essay form if you are having trouble: Introduction w/ thesis - 3 supporting paragraphs w/ topic statements and support for the thesis - Concluding paragraph that is not a summary of the paper, but offers something for the reader to continue thinking about.
