PSY 451 Health and Stress Psychology. Six Credits.
Skills and competencies in this area are primarily developed in the required course of PSY 406 Counseling Psychology. Three Credits.
Skills and competencies in this area are primarily developed in the required course of PSY 322 Social Psychology. With the exception of PSY 315 Statistics, cross-cultural issues are discussed in all classes. Three Credits.
Skills and competencies in this area are primarily developed in the required course of PSY 490 Senior Seminar in Psychology. Three Credits.
Skills and competencies in this area are primarily developed in the three required elective courses in Psychology. Nine Credits.
The Chaminade University psychology program is designed to:
1.Provide students with a practical understanding of human behavior from a biological, psychological, social, and evolutionary perspective while examining the dynamics of individual behavior, human development, social and cross-cultural foundations, personality, and psychopathology;
2.Provide students with an understanding and practical application of the scientific method: critical thinking, research, and statistics;
3.Through specific assignments students will develop attitudes, sensitivities, interpersonal skills, basic counseling skills, and critical thinking skills necessary to relate effectively with others (individuals and groups) in a broad range of settings related to individual and family relationships, social relationships, employment, and the larger community;
4.Through research and application students will develop and use ethics in preparing and completing an experiment proposal for a specific population;
5.Students will develop the competencies and skills for integrating cognition, emotion, behavior, social/cultural perspectives, and spirituality relative to health and stress management;
6.Students will develop competencies and skills to apply psychological principles to organizational structures from The Art of Strategy by R.L. WIng;
7.Through research for a power point proposal with a specific population students will develop critical thinking and use of a scientific paradigm in the field of psychology.
